Do I need a prescription for physical therapy?
No, only if your insurance policy requires it. In Connecticut, you may schedule treatment directly with a qualified physical therapist without seeing a physician first. This means you can start doing something about your condition ASAP by working with a physical therapist to alleviate your aches and pains. This often saves you time and money. Please note that Medicare does require a prescription for physical therapy.
Do I need a prescription for hand therapy?
Yes. You do need a prescription for hand therapy and occupational therapy treatment.
What can I expect on my first appointment?
After completing some paperwork, you will meet your personally assigned therapist. Your first appointment begins with the physical therapist evaluating your condition. This may include a series of special tests to accurately determine the root cause of your problem. Next, the physical therapist will develop a custom treatment program for your condition and your lifestyle. All of our therapists will help prioritize the most effective and fastest route to reaching your desired goals. You will be evaluated and special tests will be performed to accurately determine the root cause of your problem. A customized plan will be mapped out based on the clinical findings.
What do I bring?
Please bring your prescription, any information you may have from your physician, insurance cards (if applicable), and exercise sheets from previous physical therapy visits. Please bring or wear comfortable shoes and clothing that permits unrestricted movements.
How long does it take to get better?
Because our services are provided exclusively by a medical professional, in absence of aide and technicians, no time is wasted, and our preferred method of treatment often shorten the time of recovery.
Do you correspond with my doctor or surgeons?
Absolutely. We prefer to keep an interactive dialogue with your doctor. If your doctor prefers to not get on the phone, all information about you will be sent to your doctor instead. While you are in treatment, we will periodically have you fill out a ‘Result Form’ so you can tell your doctor how you are doing, in your own words. How you are feeling is what really counts!
How much time should I budget for treatment?
Plan on an hour when you come in, and an extra 15 minutes per day at home to enhance treatment.
